Shoulder Swag

Christian Louboutin, the red-soled shoe designer king, has not stopped at just making shoes; he’s a creative jack-of-all-trades when it comes to fashion, and it’s like he never screws up.

Usually I’m not too impressed by designers who predominantly specialize in one area of design, like shoes, who then branch out into handbags. It’s an entirely different element and some, like Jimmy Choo, just can’t get it right (in my opinion). Louboutin, on the other hand, seems to be getting it right every time, with every single piece he designs.

I was perusing the web this morning and came across these bags. A light went off in my head and I was like ‘OMG, how have we never seen this before?’. Instead of creating the classic bag with normal sized straps, Louboutin took the opportunity to turn the strap into a hardcore shoulder piece. Worn with your hair up so as to showcase the shoulder detail, and maybe paired with a dress or a blazer, I could see this style really exploding sometime soon. Watch for it in stores, cuz there’s going to be a trickle-down effect!

Not only is the bag studded, but the shoulder piece is wild and depicts a French badass vibe with the Eiffel Tower piece in the middle. I’m pretty sure there are other pieces that reflect France that we just can’t see in the picture, but wow it’s good.

For me, this bag gives off a very Spanish vibe. I could imagine it being part of an ad where  a woman’s in a bullfighter costume, fiercely rocking the shoulder piece on the bag.

The feathers throw me off a little bit, but I can see the appeal. I love the snakeskin print on this bag, and I could see it being worn with an all-black suit so these amazing colours would be the focal point of the outfit.

It’s clear that Christian Louboutin’s talent goes beyond designing just shoes and can readily branch into handbags, or any other type of apparel he desires. Personally, I would wear any of these, except this pill-box one. But it’s really funny.

About ChelseaSwag

I have recently completed my Criminology degree with a concentration in law and a minor in psychology at Carleton University in Ottawa. The past three years that I have spent away from my home in Montreal have only reconfirmed my ever-longing desire to become involved in the fashion industry in some way. Although there are a lot of fashion blogs out there, I have to first say that my own style will really resonate with the girls who are always looking to stand out- more so on a student budget. Different relatives and family members involved in the fashion industry have surrounded and shaped my love for fashion throughout my lifetime, however, none are quite so edgy as myself. I hope to enlighten the ladies that are looking to add a little extra oomph to their appearance, while also reflecting their own personal taste. But remember, swag is not only what you wear- it's a lifestyle. CP
