Versace for H&M

H&M has been collaborating with industry titans for quite some time now, but originally, their proposition to team up was rejected by well-known Italian brand, Versace. I would say it’s definitely a catch 22 for huge brands to lend their signature styles and emblems to another company. On one hand, they allow the public to access the brand names they covet, and on the other, they cheapen the brand by doing so. For people who cannot regularly afford huge brand names, however, it’s really a great opportunity to be able to purchase something that’s been worked on by the designers we know and respect.

Last year, H&M collaborated with Lanvin…and the results were wild. The collection consisted of a lot of dresses that were priced around the $200 range, and some other accessories. I don’t remember the Lanvin collection being quite as diverse as the current Versace one. I’m scared, though, for H&M employees around the world because Lanvin last year sold out within a day or two. This time, now that the pairing of the two brands is more well-known and the images of the upcoming collection have been circulating around the web, I think that the store is going to look like a bomb went off- a leather and studded bomb, of course.

I really only like the dark pieces and the solid colours. I find that the Versace for H&M collection can get very fruity and can be a little much if you don’t live in South Beach. I really do like a bunch of the pieces though, and if I had the patience so plant myself outside a store and fight off the rest of the fashionistas out there, I’d be down.

The outer pieces are definitely the more classy and subdued dresses of the collection.

Not my cup of tea, but I can see a lot of girls liking these designs.

Definitely more Versace than H&M, I love it!

An excellent pairing! I love both pieces, and point toed-shoes are coming back.

Love the cape dress, but the fur vest is definitely my number 1 for this entire collection.

Emblem pieces, not to be worn together, but amazing on their own.

And for the men…

If you are a fashionable man, you will like the two end pieces…case closed. The jacket is an amazing piece, and if they made a more woman-friendly one I’d be on it. Now, if you’re a really confident man, and I mean confident enough to rock a fuchsia suit, here it is! This suit would definitely be the eye-catcher of a room, but a really confident man will rock it without making it look tacky or cheap. Any takers?

Speaking of confidence, or cockiness but we gotta love him, here’s Kanye West in a Versace for H&M jacket on his Watch The Throne Tour with Jay-Z.

I like.

I’m hearing mixed news as to when the collection is supposed to debut, but apparently it’s going to be launched tonight in New York, and probably next week in stores.

Enjoy,

CP

About ChelseaSwag

I have recently completed my Criminology degree with a concentration in law and a minor in psychology at Carleton University in Ottawa. The past three years that I have spent away from my home in Montreal have only reconfirmed my ever-longing desire to become involved in the fashion industry in some way. Although there are a lot of fashion blogs out there, I have to first say that my own style will really resonate with the girls who are always looking to stand out- more so on a student budget. Different relatives and family members involved in the fashion industry have surrounded and shaped my love for fashion throughout my lifetime, however, none are quite so edgy as myself. I hope to enlighten the ladies that are looking to add a little extra oomph to their appearance, while also reflecting their own personal taste. But remember, swag is not only what you wear- it's a lifestyle. CP
