Your Fall Swag

All the new Fall collections are starting to appear in stores, and with this season, we can expect to a lot of lace, polka dots, latches and metal fasteners, leather, distressed materials, and prints in a lot of subtle colours rather than Summer’s in-your-face palette. I, for one, love to stick to blacks, golds, metals, and darker colours during the Fall and Winter seasons.
Lucky for me, there’s black in every collection.

I like to channel a biker-chic look at every chance I get. I may always look “hardcore,” but I’d rather look like that than throw on a t-shirt and leggings and be done with it…although we’re all guilty of that from time to time.

If you want to dress smartly, you would usually look no further than a blazer and a collared shirt, some black pants, and a pair of heels. The way I see it, this look can be spruced up just by making conscious decisions to embellish your look in subtle ways.

Left: Mackage Studded Blazer– this blazer can be so flattering because of its geometry. It uses broad shoulders to make the body look square, while also using a satin-looking finish around the collar which comes down and closes to the side rather than the usual middle. The studs give it that extra oomph that says “move over” to the regular black blazer..and “hello” to swag.

Middle: These Superfine Denim Leggings are great because they give a metallic edge to any look. Paired with the above blazer and any colourful or metallic accessories, this outfit is on its way to being eye-catchingly unstoppable.

Right: Diesel Leather Sneakers finish the look with the sleekness of leather, and the flat shoe offers a more casual-chic look to an outfit. All available at SSENSE.COM.

Denim had been really in style for a while, but usually I find that some pieces are so hickish that I can’t bear to even try them on. This denim-looking shirt offers the thinness of cotton with the look and colour of denim, perfect for the Fall weather.

N0w, tell me why Forever 12 would ever pair a rust-coloured shirt with the same coloured shorts? Mind boggling. If this were a romper, it would be passable…but it’s not, so never do this. It looks terrible. I do, however, like the shirt because the colour is very Fall-appropriate and the style is incredibly versatile. It can be worn to school or work in a professional setting.

These tees stay within the Fall palette but incorporate details that make an outfit pop.
Left: Diesel Toteta Shirt available at SSENSE.COM mixes an earthy green tone with some strategic rips over the shoulder. It costs the same as any plain t-shirt would, but adds that extra flair for a more fashion-forward look.

Middle: This forever 21 crop top has a slouchy fit, but the mixture of black, red, and gold print make the shirt instantly noticeable. Plus, I love lips. The lip print is sexy and casual at the same time, and could be paired with a pair of ripped jeans or shorts.

Right: This top is different from all other floral tops because it contrasts a black background with a feminine floral print.  The black makes the colours really stand out, and the combination of black and red can even make the most feminine print look a little edgier.

And the most important additions to any outfit: accessories, of course. Since fall colours are usually darker shades, they are compatible with a multitude of brighter colours and metals that can be added to an outfit with select accessories.

1. Golden Pyramid Bracelet
2. Bow Clutch
3. French Connection thick metal bangles
4. Luc Kieffer Barbed Wire
5. Michael Kors Runway Watch
6. Cage Cuff with screw detail
7. Mirabelle Shell Bangle
8. ASOS Lacquered effect bangle set
9. Forever 21 Safari Scarf

These accessories are all perfect for the fall, and each add a certain “je ne sais quoi” to an outfit. Many of these accessories combine black materials with metallics to achieve an edgier look, while neon colours, animal prints, and barbed wire add their own special touch to any outfit you choose to wear. My personal favourites are #4, #5, #6, and #8!

So whatever you wear this Fall, keep these colour schemes and accessories in mind…

And get on my level.

About ChelseaSwag

I have recently completed my Criminology degree with a concentration in law and a minor in psychology at Carleton University in Ottawa. The past three years that I have spent away from my home in Montreal have only reconfirmed my ever-longing desire to become involved in the fashion industry in some way. Although there are a lot of fashion blogs out there, I have to first say that my own style will really resonate with the girls who are always looking to stand out- more so on a student budget. Different relatives and family members involved in the fashion industry have surrounded and shaped my love for fashion throughout my lifetime, however, none are quite so edgy as myself. I hope to enlighten the ladies that are looking to add a little extra oomph to their appearance, while also reflecting their own personal taste. But remember, swag is not only what you wear- it's a lifestyle. CP
